Title: The “Metamorphosis” of Internet Language in the Information Age: A Review of From Social Dialects to Functional Styles: A New Theory of Internet Language

Abstract: From Social Dialects to Functional Styles: A New Theory of Internet Language is a linguistic work on internet language, which, based on the significant transformation in interpersonal communication methods in the new era, completely abandons the traditional perspective of simply categorizing internet language as a “social dialect”. Through precise theoretical analysis and empirical analysis, it argues that internet language is essentially a “functional register” in the information age. The book is grounded in functional linguistics and employs a stylistic variable configuration research method to conduct an in-depth analysis of the nature, characteristics, and elements of online language. This marks a new phase in online language research, one that is more mature, rational, and insightful.

Keywords: Internet language; stylistic variables; language life
