The 1st Guangzhou University Chinese Education Forum & Symposium on Excellent Traditional Chinese Culture and Chinese Language Teaching Successfully Held

On May 18, 2024, the 1st Guangzhou University Chinese Education Forum
& Symposium on Excellent Traditional Chinese Culture and Chinese Language
Teaching was successfully held in the Library Lecture Hall (University Town
Campus), Guangzhou University. Hosted by Guangzhou University, co-organized by
the Guangzhou Institute of Educational Research, and undertaken by the School
of Humanities, Guangzhou University, and the National Language Service and Language
Research Center for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (National
Language Commission).
The forum, themed “Effective Practices in the Inheritance and
Transformation of Excellent Traditional Chinese Culture in Chinese Language
Teaching”, brought together renowned national experts, scholars, teaching
researchers, and frontline Chinese language teachers, including Gu Zhichuan
from the People’s Education Press, Professor Su Xinchun from Xiamen University,
and Professor Qu Shaobing from Guangzhou University, to discuss new paths for
Chinese language education. The event featured the major release of the
Annotation System for Elements of Excellent Traditional Chinese Culture in
Chinese Textbooks and the Micro-video Resource Library for Teaching Traditional
Culture in Chinese Textbooks, providing technological and resource support for
integrating traditional culture into the classroom. Concurrently, the Guangdong
Primary and Secondary School Master Teachers’ Studio Alliance for Chinese
Language was formally established, with over 40 master teacher studios and
provincial teaching research bases becoming its first members, creating a
platform for collaborative innovation between universities and basic education.
Through keynote reports, case study presentations, and master teacher
salons, the forum conducted in-depth discussions on topics such as cultural
confidence, exploring cultural elements in textbooks, and practical classroom
integration. The forum focused on the deep integration of traditional culture
and Chinese language teaching, making a significant contribution to
implementing new curriculum standards, promoting high-quality development in
Chinese language education, and helping to build cultural confidence.
