The 7th Academic Symposium of the Youth Scholars’ Collaborative Innovation Alliance for Applied Research on Language and Characters & 2nd Youth Forum on Language Life in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Successfully Held

From September 16 to 17, 2023, the 7th Academic Symposium of the Youth
Scholars’ Collaborative Innovation Alliance for Applied Research on Language
and Characters & 2nd Youth Forum on Language Life in the Guangdong-Hong
Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area was successfully held at Guangzhou
University.Hosted by the Youth Scholars’ Collaborative Innovation Alliance for
Applied Research on Language and Characters and organized by Guangzhou
University, the forum was attended by officials from the Department of Language
Information Management (Ministry of Education) and Vice President Sun Yanming
of Guangzhou University, who addressed the opening ceremony.
Over 130 young and middle-aged scholars from more than 80 universities,
research institutes, and language service industries across the country
gathered at the forum. In line with the national language and script
development strategy for the new era, they conducted academic discussions on
core topics such as language and national governance, the promotion and
popularization of the standard spoken and written Chinese language, the
development of language norms and standards, language information processing, language
service innovation, language education, cultural inheritance and development,
and emergency language services.
Focusing on academic frontiers and practical needs, the forum emphasized
discussions on hot-button issues such as the transformation of language
services in the digital context, the synergistic development of language life
in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the empowerment of language
education by intelligent technology, and the construction and application of
national language resources. Participating scholars fully exchanged their
latest research findings and practical experiences.
This forum provided a high-level, interdisciplinary academic exchange
platform for young and middle-aged scholars, offering strong academic support
for promoting the high-quality development of applied linguistics research in
the new era and serving the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao
Greater Bay Area and the national language and script cause. The event also
included a council meeting (expanded) of the Collaborative Innovation Alliance
and a consultation meeting for young and middle-aged experts on the
construction of the National Language Resource Service Platform.
